Gelada's are very special animals. Not only are they the only gross eating primates,
they're only found in Ethiopia, nowhere else in the world.
We should look after them but unfortunately some people do
try and keep them as pets and that's where Born Free comes in.
We rescue confiscated wild animals and today we're also gonna do something very
special,
we're going to release 3 ex-pats
back into life in the wild.
I'm afraid we can't anesthetise little Lily here, because she may be pregnant
and anesthetising a pregnant female is not a good idea.
He certainly feels Healthy and he comes in
16 kilos.
Well, catching them went well,
and now it's time to get them in the cars. Albert's in one box and the two girls are in
the other.
They're all a bit nervous and not very happy.
We have two risks with these Geladas,
we don't know
how they gonna behave around people
and we don't know how they can behave around the wild geladas.
These geladas were all
kept as pets in Addis Ababa, tied around the neck or in small boxes
and today was selling a free. The two girls are gonna go out first
my if they stay around a few minutes later we'll let out the male.
They can re-group and then go off and I hope they
never spend another night behind bars again.
Well, it's the first morning. They're still here which is a good sign.
The question is, where they're gonna go to from here.
So it's day two and so far so good. These are our three released ones in the foreground
and as you can see
they're happily feeding for themselves and in the background are the wild geladas.
There have been a few problems,
when they met the wild geladas, first it was chaos, but things settled down
and our three came back together and shows their a well bonded group
and we're pretty optimistic for the future.
