I have one raised bed built. I'll soon have more. Today it is 50 degrees out, finally
and the snow is starting to melt. Big puddles in the yard. So I thought I'd start filling
up my raised bed. I don't want to buy soil so its going to be a lasagne style garden
bed. All the beds will start that way. So I put down cardboard to begin, there are lots
of weeds under there. Even though the pigs were there for a month, it was so cold that
they really didn't get the weeds out like they should have. I started to fill it by
cleaning out the bunny cages, but as I was cleaning out the bunny cage I noticed a lot
of grain that will sprout in here that the bunnies haven't gotten. So I started dumping
the bunny litter into the pig pen. The pigs seem really happy. They will get every single
to the other side. There is the whole pile. Anyway, they'll go all through that and get
all the grain and then when they are moved in a couple weeks, I'll rake that up and put
it into the garden beds. We dumped a lot of leaves back there and sprinkled grain in while
we dumped it, so they will go through the leaves for us too but now they are cleaning
up the bunny cages for me. The chickens are also happy. Because I've been spilling the
litter and they've been going back and forth to get the grain too. So I guess this is kind
of an interactive little farm. All the animals are working. Right ladies? Tonight we are
supposed to get even more snow. I'm enjoying the weather while I can.
