My name is Chris McGromit. I work at Platonic Goldmont and I am a lab leading hand. I am
currently studying a Masters of Chemical Engineering at Curtin University. And it's mainly in oil
and gas processing.
Because I work away it's often difficult to get to lectures and I've done the lecture
thing before and I enjoy doing it by myself in the comfort of my own home. Doing a Bachelor
of Science, it's not always enough in terms of surveying, engineering and what not. If
I had a lot more experience then I would be able to just use my Bachelor but doing the
Masters lets me get to that stage a lot quicker.
Curtin has been really supportive of my postgraduate studies. Any time I had any needs or requests
they were more than happy to make time available for me and they were very quick on replies.
My career goal is to have a job with a lot of responsibility and taking on roles such
as offshore oil and gas ones will definitely have a lot of responsibility in terms of safety,
production, the overall movements and operations of the vessel.
The postgraduate study has allowed me to progress quicker than I normally would have - it has
given me the option to go into the oil and gas industry. With my Bachelor only it would
have been a lot more difficult.
