This tutorial explains how to track the progress of your requests in UBC Library's
new online course reserves service.
It also outlines the turnaround times for processing different material
types
and once class has started shows you how to see who's accessed their readings.
Let's begin by logging into the system
at connect.ubc.ca 0:00:23.269,0:00:25.299 Click the library link up here
and then select the relevant course in the My Course Reserves menu.
The page will open showing all the requests you've made.
Some will be made available immediately , while other material types take longer.
You'll know which is which by consulting the status column here.
Generally, electronic items that the Library already owns or licenses are
available right away.
If you click the PURL link here you'll find a permanent, ezproxied link to the
reading that you can share with your students.
ebooks may show an "in processing" status but you can ignore that -
the system generates a permanent link you can use immediately.
Physical items like print books or dvds will be processed and made available at your
branch within fourteen days.
Web links will be reviewed by library staff and will be made available to
your students within three days.
It is possible to request materials the Library doesn't own but the turnaround
time on this will vary depending on the time of year and availability of the
materials.
You can check the status of a request by clicking on an item
and then scrolling down to the tracking section.
You can see when you made your request,
when the item became visible in the Connect system, and the item's current status.
If your item has been in processing for longer than the previously mentioned
turnaround times
see our online course reserves guide and click the contacts tab
to follow up with the appropriate branch staff.
Back at your item record
here's one more helpful feature in the system.
If you scroll down a bit further
you can also see who's accessed the readings.
Every student who clicks on an item in your reserves list will be recorded and
displayed here
or
here when you click on the red link.
Please note,
this will only tell you if thet clicked on the link
not whether they actually read it.
In this tutorial we've learned how to track the progress of your Library reserves
srequests and how to check if your item s are being accessed by your students.
