We are there
We have landed on the moon Ladies and Gentleman. Lets stay in Houston.
This is of course
Dutch television history
And above all a very important event in world history.
As far as I know we had only 2 channels
Channel 1 and channel 2
Everyone in the Netherlands has seen it
From that perspective
it is Dutch Television heritage.
We are listening to mission control
Some messages from mission control
For the second time the Astronauts are behind the moon
Still following their elliptical orbit
I think that this was the breakthrough for Henk Terlingen
uhhh
This is where he got his nickname Apollo Henky
Also it was the beginning of fame for Grit Titular
He was the moon specialist in the studio
and commented on the images from the moon
I think that this crater is (Kuo Shou*)
Crater (Kuo Shou*) is very close
to what we call landing site number 1
but further away from landing site number 2
From the first days I started to work with the archives
I searched for this footage
And I had to come to the conclusion that the footage was gone
Later Rudolf spoor, the TV director
told me that the tapes were erased by the NOS
In my opinion it was gone
Hours and days of broadcasting
Henk Terlingen, I and Grit Titular were very curious about how the footage looked
At the time we were so busy
with the broadcast
The launch and what happened during the flight
After a few years... uhhh
Well we watched the tapes back, interesting
And used it to learn lessons for the next Apollo flights
And when at a given moment we wanted to make
a recap
Lets say after five years, landing on the moon
I had a list of all the tape numbers, those big Ampec tapes
that everything was taped on
We searched for the tapes
but they had disappeared, or better
They had been erased really, erased, gone
Gone was the footage!
Unique historical footage
How proud can a country be that has planted its flag on the moon.
By pure chance after watching the talk show Zomergasten
I talk about 1989
The guest was Pierre Jansen, an art expert
and he wanted to see a clip of the moon landing
And they showed him a short clip
I watched it and noticed the voice of Henk Terlingen
I thought how is this possible as these tapes do not exist
The next day I contacted Zomergasten, Peter van Ingen was the
host
He told me that the clip came from Grit Titular
Then I thought Uhhhh
Grit Titular was the science adviser
Maybe he has the tapes
I contacted Titular
And he said yes, I have half an hour or so, but
If you want to broadcast it
You should credit *** Schwartz
and this is how I traced *** Schwartz
They contacted me as they had heard that I had taped the broadcast
and wanter to know if I still had the tapes
And this is how they ended up with the NOS
This is
the video recorder
The Ampex video recorder
I used to tape the Apollo 11
in 1969
This recorder I changed a long time ago
for a newer one of better quality
That is how it goes with video recorders.
This is the recorder that was used
Later we transferred the tapes
To save the footage
The image was upside down
Now turn the image and you see his foot
There he is
He speaks the words
Famous words
Ladies and Gentleman
Everything is said, Apollo 11 has returned to Earth
Much is said.
You will all need time for yourself to process the information
It may take months before we all
realized what happened the last 8 days
It was a turning point in history
Something this big we will not experience again in our lifetimes.
We should be thankful that could witness this
by TV, radio and the press
in the most direct way as possible
The Apollo 11 Flight came to an end and we now have
to analyse the information.
The results will most likely impress us.
For now we say thank you for watching
We hope to see you back for Apollo 12
