Hello,
my name is Joe Bueter and I will be presenting a useful social media tool
called Scoop It. What Scoop It really is is
a content aggregator. Much like Yahoo News or
Gawker or Huffington Post, except you or your students
are the editors of content. Primarily,
I will detail how instructors and instructional designers
can use Scoop It to promote research as a community endeavor.
For instance, this site can enlive an
annotated bibliography assignment by giving students ownership over
design and allowing them to share
sources with other students or to find out about new sources.
For instructors, you can create
a class page which you could then use
to demonstrate what an appropriate source for a paper
might be. And you can also connect
sources, that you have found outside of the classroom,
to topics that you have discussed in the class.
There's a lot of other really nice things about this and I'm excited to
share them with you at my presentation.
