Here's how to paint furniture to give an old piece new life. You'll need the piece you
want to paint, such as this wood table, a drop cloth, safety mask, fine grit sandpaper,
tack cloth, a small paint brush, a medium paint brush, paint stick, primer and interior
latex paint. Lightly sand the entire surface, and wipe it down with a tack cloth. Wear a
safety mask when sanding. Be sure your primer and paint are well-mixed and your work area
is well-ventilated. Turn the table upside down and use the medium brush to cover larger
areas such as the underside. With the small brush, apply a primer to tight spaces such
as legs and joints. Stand the table upright and prime the top of the table. Allow primer
to dry according to label directions. Now you're ready to add color. Apply interior
latex paint following the same steps as the primer. We recommend two coats of paint. Follow
label directions for drying time between coats. Allow the final coat to dry at least a day
before using the table. Painting furniture is a great way to refresh a thrift store find.
