Hi,
Today, I am going to show you how to find out your Linux server version using command
line utilities.
You can use the following commands to find out your Linux Distribution name and Version.
Open the Terminal application and type the command cat /etc/issue
I am using Red Hat Enterprise Linux server version 6.5
Next, you can type cat /etc/*release* and press enter key.
Again you will get the same information.
I am using Red Hat Enterprise Linux server version 6.5
Finally to display distribution specific information, type:
lab release option a i.e. lsb_release -a
And, I am using Red Hat Enterprise Linux server version 6.5
You can use the uname tool to see what version of Linux kernel you are running, type:
uname -a OR uname -mrs
I am using Linux kernel version 6.2.32
I am going to use and run same commands on Ubuntu server to see distribution specific
information.
I am using Ubuntu 12.04
Again, same information is displayed.
lsb_release -a I am going using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
And to display kernel version uname -a or -mrs
