Hi, today on Wondermint Kids, we are going to one of my favorite places...
The Leo Carrillo Ranch in Carlsbad, California, which is famous for its peacocks!
Come on! Let's go!
Whenever I come to Carlsbad, I like to go to the Leo Carrillo Ranch, to explore...
have picnics with my family...
and watch all the peacocks roaming around!
I think peacocks are such amazing and beautiful birds!
The proper name for peacock is 'peafowl'. The males are called peacocks, the females peahens, and the babies peachicks.
The males needs his bright feathers to attract a mate.
And the female needs to be able to blend into the bushes to protect her eggs.
Did you know the peacocks tail can grow up to...
...three feet long and six feet wide?
Peacocks feed on seeds, leaves, insects, small reptiles like snakes, and even mice.
There's even a white peacock here at Leo Carrillo Ranch.
And if you're lucky, you get to see him open up his tail and show off his feathers.
Leo Carrillo was an actor that was in movies and on television in the 1920's through the 1950's.
He was born in 1881 and died in 1961.
There's a lot of other neat stuff to explore and see while you're here, too!
Adobe buildings from the 1930's.
An antique windmill.
Here we are at the bunk house. This is where Leo Carrillo kept all his horses, and was also an office for him.
Here's a fun bridge to cross!
Here are the stables where the horses are kept.
It is right below where Leo Carrillo would work.
I hope you all had fun at the Leo Carrillo Ranch. See you next time! Bye!
