Today is Wednesday, and we are heading "Direct to Technology" with Silvina Moschini in Miami.
Silvina thanks again for joining us. Let's start talking about the cloud
not the kind many people must be thinking of, but the technological cloud,
which is the place where all files go, as well as emails
and music and now, they want to control it.
That's true. But let's just clarify that through the cloud, service providers access
information using encryption and a binary system.
But governments are realizing, especially the FBI,
that people are using those systems to communicate.
That which was previously done by phone, is today being done via Internet, through protocol systems
on the Internet. That's why in trying to end or avoid terrorist attacks,
or the exchange of information in an unsafe manner, they are trying to intervene and control
what happens on the Internet, through email accounts, and platforms
like Skype or Google Voice, and the rest of the alternatives that are being used today
to communicate. This could also extend to video games.
This is not new, it's something they have done for a while, for example, when monitoring phone lines,
following the mail, or following different kind of information to search for intelligence info.
Let's change gears: there is a popular saying which states that "long distance relationships make the four of us happy,"
but now there are some apps which are trying to change that.
That's true. One app that has been a huge success, within just one year of its release,
already has a million users. It is called "Couple," and it is a messaging application that allows couples
to communicate constantly. Just between themselves. The couple registers within the app
and then they can exchange videos and messages that only the two of them can watch.
It is not necessarily for lovers, just for people who are involved in a relationship
and who today can communicate in real time via the Internet.
Couple, that one is for the optimists who want to maintain a long distance relationship.
And finally let's go with the options that internet provides for vacations.
Nowadays the traditional media are not the only methods by which we can search, there are also a lot of options
to find not only destinations but also, for example,
where to stay in cute, nice and cheap places.
Cute, nice and cheap. There are three interesting apps. One of them is called Airbnb,
it is an app and also a website, which allows users to rent a room
or other people's apartments, giving these people the opportunity
to gain some extra money when they rent their properties to users.
It is a community where people who prefer not to go to a hotel can search
and find a nice place, and have all the amenities that an apartment will offer.
Good, then the people from the previous report, who are using the Couple app, can plan their vacations
through this application, and so, keep the love alive.
Thanks a lot, Silvina Moschini, in "Direct to technology."
