Hello, I'm Lindsey Mastis, Founder and Host of JournalistApps.com, and I am joined by
Dave Basulto, he is the inventor of the iOgrapher. Dave, thank you so much for coming down here--
Thank you for having me-- to Hollywood Walk of Fame, perfect place to show off this invention.
Tell me a little bit about it, because you're an educator, you invented this for students,
but this is something that has come in handy for journalists. DAVE: Well, I really wanted
a case that my kids could shoot with that had handles on it. That was key. Also that
we can add lighting, that we could add microphones, we could put it on a tripod, add lenses, and
really make high-end professional looking videos on your iPad, or iPhone. LINDSEY: It
becomes a stabilizer, really. DAVE: Absolutely, and that was key. I mean if you don't have
something like that and you're shooting like this all the time, I don't care how stable
you think you are. LINDSEY: Tell me a little bit about the add ons. When you get the iOgrapher,
you just get the case but you can add pretty much anything you want to it. DAVE: So, we
sell lenses so a 37 mm lens kit, is a telephoto and wide angle, $37 really inexpensive. Lighting
we sell from $50 on up. Micorphones, shotgun, or lavaliers, anywhere from $60 on up. So
you can go as big as you want or stay as budget friendly as you would like as well. LINDSEY:
And you can leave it on a tripod or you can just hold it. Tell me a little bit about the
apps because journalists are used to editing with very expensive software, but the app
is so important and in the scheme of things the apps are really quite affordable. DAVE:
Well, so you know the iPad comes with a camera app and that's fine and dandy, but if you
really want to ramp it up a lot, FiLMiCPro is my app to go to. It shoots a higher resolution
video so 50 mb per second. It's much higher quality. You can also change the exposure
levels by sliding it around. So you can go darker or lighter. Whatever you want. You
can lock focus. You can monitor the audio so you have your headphones in, you're shooting,
you can't do that with any other app. You can zoom in and out. This one's got zoom features.
It also shoots, depending on your device, whatever frame rate. So if you're on the iPhone
it'll go 120 frames per second, if you really wanted it to. It's fantastic. It also has
a remote control app. I can put that on my iPhone or another iPad, frame my shot, go
across the street where I'm going to shoot, press play and it's shooting for me. So everything's
controlled. I have everything I need and I don't really need another person to help me.
LINDSEY: There's also an app that you recommend if someone wants to do a multi-cam shoot.
What app is that and how many devices can you have? DAVE: So let me just say there's
two of them that like. One is called Vizzywig. You can shoot up to 16 iPads or iPhones connected
together over WiFi, so -- LINDSEY: Wow. DAVE: You can have multiple shots. There's another
one called MultiCam and that's up to four iPads or iPhones and they're both fantastic
to use and Vizzywig is also an editor so you can use that as an editor too. It's expensive.
It's $29 but you can do a lot of things with it. LINDSEY: So tell me a little bit about
the iOgrapher. It comes in several different sizes. What are the prices? DAVE: So, this
is the iPad Mini and you have the full size iPad for two, three, and four. They start
out at $65 for the mini, the iPad full size is $69. We do $50 for schools for everything.
This is the new iPhone case that'll be launched at the end of March and it's a $45 price point.
And then the iPad Air is coming out. And that's going to be $65 as well. LINDSEY: If you want
more information about the iOgrapher, just visit the links on our page. And Dave has
a special discount code for you if you want to some money off. DAVE: Just type in "Journalist
Apps" and you will get $15 off your purchase. LINDSEY: Wonderful Dave, thank you so much
for coming down here and explaining the iOgrapher. DAVE: Sounds good. LINDSEY: For more information,
