Hello welcome back this is Cyrus the multimedia
specialist at West Los Angeles College
and today we're gonna do a real quick one
about discussion import
tips will call it so
step 1: we're gonna go down to Firefox
and open up Etudes
its and as usual
I'm logged in I'm gonna go to my
site to demonstrate
this technique so here we are
on my home page and
this is kinda of a tip for
when you import once site
to another so if you're gonna import your
spring semester site into your summer site
spring to fall sometimes when you do that
everything imports fine all of your modules and
assignments et cetera they all
come through okay but once in a while
a discussion will be missing or all your discussions will be missing
so this is a real quick way to make sure that doesn't happen
in the old days you had
I'm just gonna go into this forum called class discussions
and I'm gonna show you how we used to have to do this
you used to have to go into your particular topic
in this case I'm going into the week 2 discussion topic
and then you would have to go over here to
edit and click on Edit
and then you would have to click on this little box here
that says I'll re-use and then you'd have to post it
at the bottom so that was the old way
which was kinda
annoying if you had
a whole bunch of discussion sometimes if you have a 16-week class
and a couple discussions each week
you would have to make sure that box was checked in every single discussion
and go through those steps that I just did
for each and every single discussion so it kind of took a long time
Now Vivie from Etudes
showed me the new improved method so
we're gonna go back to just your regular discussion page
and you're gonna click on a forum:
you will have to repeat this process if you have multiple forums
but as you'll see it's a lot quicker so I'm gonna click on this forum called
class discussions and
what I'm gonna do it doesn't matter if you have one discussion
or 100 discussions the
easiest quickest way to do it is click this little box here which will select
all so it'll run down the list and then
all you do is go to the right and there's this little
Re-use click on re-use
and that's it all of my discussions in this particular forum are now
set to reuse so when I import
this site into a future semester
all my discussions will come through
at least from this forum you want to make sure to repeat this
if you have multiple forums so I'm gonna go I have another forum called test
and this
forum only has one topic but I'm gonna go ahead and
click that little grey box at the top that selects all
and then I'll click re-use
now if you had a topic that was
specific to one semester that you wouldn't want to carry over to your future
class I think the best way to do it
I'll show you again so you go into the forum
and say you have say this week 2 discussion was
about a the Sochi Olympics
and I don't think it would work well in my
future class because it was just specific to that time period
I would go ahead and click them all and this will highlight all your
discussions all your discussion topics and then you just
unchecked the one that you don't want and then click reuse
or if you've already set them to reuse
then you would click the specific topic that you
didn't want to reuse in your future semesters
and then you click this little icon here which is
remove reuse so I'm gonna click that
and sure enough when I go into my topic
click on Edit I'm just showing you this you don't actually have to do this
but I'm just showing you this that you know it works
and when you look down here
it has unchecked the I'll re-use
box so that's it that's how to
quickly select all of your discussion topics
and reuse them a
for future use thanks for watching
see you next time
