The Ribbon Adapter - What You May Not Know!
Hi, it's Sue, and you are watching Ribbon Print Tales. Here's the place to be to learn
everything you need to use your printer easily, confidently, and profitably. And today we
are talking about that mysterious little part that came with your printer.
Some of you who have older machines, it was a little plastic piece that was about - oh,
I don't know - an inch by an inch wide or so. It almost looked like a little packing
piece that came with your printer. And it was called, at one point, the Narrow Ribbon
Adapter, and I want you to know that that is history.
We are doing away with that part; most specifically, the name. So, no longer is there a Narrow
Ribbon Adapter. Well, what has it been replaced with? It has been replaced with this little
part, called a Ribbon Adapter. I know, similar name, but it's a Ribbon Adapter. It's now
a metal piece. These little tongs are a little bit longer, and this is what we'll be using
and referring to from this point forward.
Now, don't worry. If you still have that little plastic part, you can do everything that we're
going to talk about on this video, and you can still absolutely, positively use it. And
if you ever, you know, misplace it or it breaks or something, then you know, you can upgrade
to this little piece.
Why are we changing the name? Well, the Narrow Ribbon Adapter, as you're going to see as
we move on, is just very limiting. There is so much more that you can do with this piece,
way over and above just using it for narrow ribbons. And I'm going to show you that now.
Reason to Use the Ribbon Adapter
There are two reasons why you would use the Ribbon Adapter. The first reason is to print
on ribbon that is less than one inch in width. If you open up the printer and you look in
the bottom, you'll see the two white ribbon guides will not get any closer to each other
than an inch. So, if you want to print on ribbon that is less than that, you need the
guide to keep the ribbon tightly in place.
The second reason is to use all areas of your foil, and that allows you to get the most
out of your consumables as possible and, of course. that saves you money.
Positions of the Ribbon Adapter
There are also two positions for the Ribbon Adapter. Now, get ready guys, this is tough.
It can go under the left-hand ribbon guide and it can go under the right-hand ribbon
guide. And we are going to talk about both of these individually right now.
Uses Under the Left Ribbon Guide
The reason you would use it under the left-hand ribbon guide is it will allow you to print
on ribbon that is less than one inch in width, as we were just talking about a second ago.
The other reason is it gives you the ability to print into the center of the foil rolls.
In other words, you're able to use different positions and print on different areas of
the foil that you might not already have printed on and, again, getting to the point of being
able to use all of your consumables.
So, here you see the Ribbon Adapter inserted under the left ribbon guide, and the print
now will be shifted to the right to print on this yellow ribbon. In this situation,
when you go to print, the print dialogue box will come up; and under Ribbon Adapter, you
are going to choose the radio button that says that the Ribbon Adapter is inserted.
This will tell the computer to shift the print over to the right so that the print will land
on the ribbon as you have adjusted it within your printer.
And here you can see how it prints.
Uses Under the Right Ribbon Guide
Now let's talk about using the Adapter under the right-hand ribbon guide. And the main
reason that you would do this is it gives you the ability to print right up to the edges
of your foils on each side. In other words, those very small edges all the way at the
end may be available for printing after you've run some jobs like printing on larger ribbons
and such, and you'll see what I mean here.
Now, here you see the Ribbon Adapter inserted under the right-hand ribbon guide. This is
going to allow you to use the foil on the most outer edges of each roll. So, in this
particular situation, we don't want the print to shift over to the right. So, when you click
the print button and the dialogue box comes up, under Ribbon Adapter, you say not inserted.
The result here will be that your print will stay justified to the left.
And here's the resulting print. Also note, with the white arrows, that this foil has
been used before.
Now you know everything there is to know about the new Ribbon Adapter - how to put it into
your printer, how to position it so that it'll print properly on your ribbon, and how to
use your foils more efficiently. If anything was unclear or if you have further question,
please let me know in the Comment Section right below this video. Take care everybody
and have a good day. Bye-bye!

The Ribbon Print Company
I am here to tell you that that is history. I never want to hear that word again. The
Narrow Ribbon Adapter does not exist. It is so gone that I don't even have one here to
show you. And the different reasons why you would put it in a different way. Oh, that
didn't sound very good. Select the proper ribbon adapter selection. That doesn't sound
good. It's confusing too - for your ribbon printing stuff. Boy, am I rambling on.
