I'm delighted to speak to you today. You are
staging these international marches for
our innocent animal cousins,
incarcerated and on death row.
You are sending out a clarion call that we are
earthlings, not longer blind
to injustice, you are also sending out
other messages, we are
no longer voiceless,we are no longer powerless,
we are no longer spineless,we will
stand up for justice whenever and wherever
and to whoever it is denied.
Because animal rights now is the greatest
social justice issue since the abolition
of slavery.
Margaret Mead said:" Never doubt that a few committed
people can change the world. Indeed,it's the only
thing that ever has." When we
are committed and we are no longer
few,our ranks are growing rapidly
every day .In human history
only 100 billions of humans ever lived,
7 billions are alive today and yet we torture and kill
2 billions sentient animals every week,
this is a crime of unimaginable proportions.
The animal industrial complex is killing innocent
animals,unsuspecting consumers,
our children and our fragile environment.
If these ignoble industries had to pay the cost of
their externalities,they would go bankrupt,
they survive only because others
are picking up the tab for their crimes.
Victor Hugo said :"There is nothing more powerful
than an idea whose time has come." Well, let me
tell you, there's nothing more destructive than
a bad idea whose time has passed.
It's time for every educated,
enlightened and responsible citizen to
get off the meat and dairy drug,
the peddlers of these vile products have had their day
and their time has passed,
so I send you my best wishes to
every participant in every march in every country
today. You've chosen not to relive
history,you are making history
and you are on the right side of history.
And the time will come, humanity will owe
you a debt of gratitude they could never repay.
And for my own part,
I send you my humble thanks...and my admiration,
thank you.
