We're with Mike McAdams of the Advanced Biofuels Association.
We just finished a panel on the future of the Renewable Fuels Standard.
What would you say were some of the key takeaways from the panel?
What I really liked was the breadth of the panel. We had
folks from both industry and from Capitol Hill.
The key takeaways were that the RFS is absolutely fundamental bedrock
to creating a biofuels industry in the United States.
That there are people that are looking at opening the RFS,
and it is going to be a challenge to moving forward.
And then the other content that we discussed in great detail was
the tax code and whether we get the tax code right
or whether the tax code gets reshaped and when that happens.
But what I am glad to hear is that everybody on the panel really
felt strongly about the RFS playing a role forward
and they felt strongly that we did need to look at the tax components
to help buy down the cost of these fuels going forward
and help spur and expedite this industry.
Great, you mentioned you were on the Hill earlier this morning.
What would you say is the temperature or mood on the Hill?
This was easy compared to this morning.
I testified in front of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
They were talking about the same subject.
Is the RFS working? What do we do about it?
The President of the American Petroleum Institute was there.
The one thing I was pleased to hear from him was that he
only thought the RFS needed to be modified. He didn't call for repeal.
I was delighted to hear that.
But both Bob Dinneen, who is the President of the Renewable Fuels Association
and I, were pretty steadfast and we had a pretty engaging set of comments.
On both sides of the aisle, between Republicans and Democrats, about how is it working?
What fuels are coming? When are they coming? What types of fuels?
What are the requirements to get them there? I thought it was a really solid debate.
I thought it was a debate that was, quite frankly, no holds barred.
And the breadth of people they had there,
from the coal and liquids guys, to the natural gas guys, to the electrical vehicle guys.
Clearly they were having an overarching look at how
do we approach the transportation fuels policy of this nation going forward?
Great. Overall, are you enjoying the conference?
The conference is great.
Its two days of the right people talking about the right things.
And I think the location is particularly helpful this year.
Perfect. Mike McAdams, thanks so much, sir.
Andrew, thank you.
