I got into skeleton when I was about 15 years old.
My brothers’ coach put some lacrosse padding on my shoulders
and they put this helmet on my head, and then he points
to this little cookie sheet looking sled thing on the ground.
And he says ok, now lay down on your stomach,
hold on to these little handles and be a sack of potatoes.
And I’m like, “A sack a, a sack of what?”
And all of the sudden, right when he said that,
he just kicked me off, down the hill, I was screaming for my life,
I thought I was going to die.
By the end I was like….Woho (laughter), wooo (laughter).
I said, “That was awesome, put me up there,
let me do it again, what’s this called.”
And that’s when he said, “This is called skeleton.”
I’m really excited to be doing this on a sled
that my husband built for me.
He designed it, engineered it,
did everything for it, and I absolutely love it.
And to be able to have my two kids with me,
just seeing it through their eyes is just a lot of fun.
The biggest way that we stay connected is through our phone.
Being able to have international service is huge for us.
We’re traveling all over for like 5 months out of the year
we’re in a different country.
Literally if I don’t have my phone on me I feel like I’m going to lose it.
Wooo…how do I keep it all balanced?
Do I keep it balanced? I dunno (laughter)
I think a lot of it comes down to,
well number one, a great support system.
Just having my husband be able to ease my load,
time management, and just healthy living really seems
to balance things out, keeps my mood level, and things like that.
What inspires me to keep going?
Just having a team behind me, knowing that every time
I get to that starting line and every time that that green light goes off,
and that 30 second countdown begins,
and I take my sled and I put my helmet on my head,
the only way that I can do this is with the support that I have,
with a sponsor like AT&T and with my family
and all those that have been there, my parents, my mom.
Growing up my parents would always just say,
don’t take no for answer, you know, don’t, and in a good way,
so don’t let other people hold you back.
Man, girls you can do anything, anything.
You know when I was younger I had my mind set on doing track,
I had my mind set on doing softball,
but the biggest thing is just you can do it, stay positive,
you’re beautiful, don’t let the world get you down.
We’ve all been blessed with different physical attributes
and different talents, and just find out
what those talents are and go after it.
