Chana Masala is a very tasty and popular dish prepared with Chickpeas
Chole / Chickpeas can be made in several ways, Today I'm going to make Chana Vada
Lets see the ingredients required for making Chana Masala
For making this we will need
Chickpeas - 1 cup or 250 gm (dry), soaked for 10 hrs or overnight, 2 1/2 cup (after soaking)
Tomato - 2, medium sized, blended
Oil - 2 tbsp
Chana Masala - 1 tbsp
Baking Soda - 1/8 tsp
Fenugreek leaves - 1 tsp
Cilantro - 2 tbsp
Dry pomegranate seeds - 1 tsp
Paprika (Kashmiri Mirch) - 1/2 tsp
Carom Seeds - 1 tsp
Asafoetida - 1 pinch
Salt - 2 tsp, adjust to taste
Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp
Ginger - 1 inch piece, grated
Green Chillies - 2, cut lengthwise
Lets start making Chana Masala
First we will boil the chickpeas
I am using a pressure cooker to boil these chickpeas
Add water upto the level of chickpeas
Add 1 tsp salt
Add baking soda
Mix and cover the lid
Turn on the gas
After two whistles, turn gas to low and boil for another 15 minutes
Now turn gas to low and boil for 15 minutes
Its been 15minutes, now turn off the gas and let it release the pressure
In the meanwhile we'll prepare masala (gravy) for chickpeas
Heat oil in a pan
Oil is heated, now add carom seeds
Add asafoetida
Add Ginger and green chillies
Add tomatoes
Saute it
Add paprika
Add garam masala
Add chana masala
Add dry pomegranate seeds
Add fenugreek leaves
Add salt
Now open the cooker
Chickpeas are boiled
Oil has separated from the tomatoes, it means our masala is done, now we'll add the chickpeas to it
Mix well
You can also add dry mango power if you like it more sour
Let them cook for 5 minutes
Add cilantro
Chana masala is ready, turn off the gas
Take it out into a serving bowl
Chana Masala is ready
You can have it with Bhature, Kachori, Puri, Chapati or Rice
You can serve it as a main course dish in lunch or dinner
