Hello and Welcome
This is my first services of inspirational tips on how to overcome depression.
In this video I want to talk about depression.
and what is. If you haven't seen my previous video
my introduction to this series I just want to briefly introduce myself.
I'm Linda Connors and I am a hypnotherapist.
Through my own history of depression and the work I have done with many people
helping them overcome depression I want to share tips, resources and exercises
to help people to overcome depression.
So, what is depression?
When I talk about this I am going to talk about my depression and where I have come from to overcome depression.
In my twenties I experienced depression.
It was an emotional roller coaster ride of ups and downs.
When I went down I had no motivation to live my life.
I was experience high anxiety and feeling really stuck in my life.
I felt really lost, I didn't know where I was going or what my purpose in life was.
If you look at those experiences to understand where the depression stems from
I didn't have the inner resources to manage my emotions.
To manage these complex and roller coaster ride of emotions.
As well as being able to deal with some issues from my earlier life.
and my childhood issues. I lacked so much confidence.
I was very quiet and a bit of a loner.
So when I reflect back to some of my experiences in childhood,
it was quite a lonely place.
So fast forwarding into my twenties when I began to experience the depression
It was a time when I felt really lost, lonely and anxious. I felt really stuck in my life.
My emotions, my despair, lack of hope were also stuck.
What helped me was to reflect back to my childhood
and also remember the happy times.
The more positive experiences.
I got to a point in my late twenties and early thirties
where I decided that this wasn't how I wanted to live my life.
Inside me I could feel this energy bubbling that
I had a choice to make I could either stay where I was or I could make some fundamental changes into my thought processes
into my behaviour patterns and the way I deal with my emotions
and some life style choices.
So I went on this amazing journey of inner awareness
and emotional changes.
It was challenging at times, it was exhausting.
but it was also healing and inspirational.
So perhaps the first step for you to think about
with regards to the depression that you are experiencing.
is that depression is not who you are.
It's an experience you are having right now.
It doesn't define you.
It's not your identity.
If you are in a place of depression where you can't see any light,
you feel really stuck.
You do not know what your purpose is.
The first step is to begin to reflect, think about
some positive experiences that you had in your life.
Think about from those positive experiences
what were your strengths at that moment in time.
Write them down.
Really explore them.
If you look at those strengths from that period of time, how can those strengths help you today.
When you are doing this exercise, please do not put pressure on yourself.
This is a journey.
It's going to be a journey of inner awareness, insights, healing and it's also going to be for you inspirational.
That's the end of this video today.
