Hi there, Sandy here.
Welcome to another jewelry making video at KeepsakeCrafts.net.
Christmas is coming in just a few days and I thought we would make a really quick pair
of earrings.
You could put these together for yourself for a last minute party or last minute gift.
You can make a pair in about half an hour.
One of the things I love about this earring project is not only does it work up quickly,
I timed myself on the third one that I made and it took about 15 minutes.
The first, of course, might take you a little longer.
I also love how few supplies it uses and I love these beads.
You can see them right here in this earring that I have completed.
These are called superduos and you can see from the side view here that they have two
holes, the duo, and they're diamond or kind of oval shaped and the holes go through the
short ends and this means they really fit together in all kinds of interesting ways
and today we're going to use them to make this fan shape for a pair of earrings.
So all you need for an earring are 6 superduos in whatever colors you like.
You're going to need some number 15/0 seed beads in a coordinating color.
You'll need an ear wire, a jump ring and then you'll need one 6/0 seed bead.
These are much bigger and you can find these all at your local craft store.
I found the superduos in A.C. Moore.
I actually became acquainted with them because I accidentally bought them and now I'm in
love!
And you'll need this 6/0 seed bead to be big enough for your jump ring to go through because
you can see that's how we're going to attach it to the ear wire.
You'll also need some bead stringing thread.
This I found at WalMart.
This is WildFire.
It's very, very strong.
You can get in in black and white.
And you'll also need a needle.
This is a big eye needle and all of my needles just end up bent to heck.
It's just the way I use them, but it's basically all just one eye that's connected on the ends,
just two wires and it really makes it really easy to thread and you cut yourself about
a 15" piece of the bead weaving thread and then at one end, about 4" from the end, just
put a bead stopper.
So we're going to start out by picking up one of the 15/0 seed beads and then you're
going to pick up one hole of your superduos and you can have them in whatever order you
want.
Now the way this works is there are five down here in the fan and then one up here.
So I chose colors out of this one.
It's called Victorian Elegance.
Let's see, in mine, the purple one is going to go up here so let's put that aside for
a moment and just make the fan.
One, two, three, four, five and now you're going to put on three of the 15/0 seed beads.
Slide those down close to the stopper.
Then you're going to go back through the hole of the last superduo you put on and you just
want to work down here.
Just leave yourself a little bit of space so you'll have about a 5" tail of thread here.
Pick up a 15 and go back through the remaining hole of the next superduo and keep going so
you're alternating the number 15 seed beads with the superduos and that pushes them out
so they make that fan shape.
At this point, once you have all of those on, you can take off the bead stopper.
It is kind of in the way and this little seed bead may fall off because we're not going
to get back to it for a little while, but don't worry about it.
Now once you come out and if you pull these up tight you can see your fan shape, but don't
worry about keeping it snug for now.
Now we're going to thread on seven number 15s.
So what we've done is we started here, gone all the way through those, gone down here
and gone through alternating with the 15s and now we're going to go back up here.
So seven number 15 beads.
Then you're going to go through one hole of your remaining superduo, a 15 and through
your number 6 and then another 15, then through the remaining hole of that superduo.
Now you're going to pick up just five of the 15s.
Now this is the only point where it kind of got a little tricky for me the first couple
of times I did it.
This likes to flip around so that these little beads are on the top or the inside, but they
actually go on the bottom on the outside.
So make sure that you turn that around.
Then you're going to skip this seed bead and go through these remaining two and so the
five seed beads that you just put on plus these two equals the seven you did earlier
so that the earring is symmetrical.
And now you can kind of see how that's going to work.
And now we're going to make these little scallops that go underneath each of the superduos.
And to do those, you just pick up three seed beads and then go through the number 15 seed
bead that's between the next two superduos.
Pick up another three 15s and through the next 15 that's between two superduos and keep
going like that so you'll have a total of five little scallops, one underneath each
of the superduos.

So once you've put on the last three to go around that last superduo, you're going to
start running your needle back through the thread path you already made.
So through these seven seed beads, number 15s, through the superduo, through the 15.
This just helps tighten everything up and reinforce it.
You can really see the shape of your earring now.
Through that number 6, through the seed bead, the superduo and five of the seed beads and
then back through that very beginning thread path.
This little seed bead and these five superduos.
If as you're watching this it's boggling your mind, just gather the materials together and
sit down and do it step by step and if you're able to understand patterns, it's actually
a pretty simple pattern if you can picture the thread path.
Now as I mentioned, this little seed bead fell off over here.
It does.
It's fine.
No big deal.
I'll just pop it back on.
So to finish up I'm going to go through this last superduo and that very first seed bead
we put on and then I'm going to pop my thread through this.
Now there are two threads coming out at the exact same point.
I'm just going to put one through the hole there so that they are coming out on either
side because we're just about done.
Take off your needle and now you're just going to tie a square knot.
You want to count down these five seed beads and your knot should fall right in between
the fifth and the sixth.
So a square knot is just left, right, well one over the other.
Right over left or left over right.
Pick one and then the opposite, left over right and then there you have it.
And you can just add a drop of glue.
I'm using the super new glue because it really just blends in.
Let it dry, trim off the thread tails.
And then open up your jump rings, slide that through the number 6 at the top and through
your ear wire.
Close it up securely and there you go.
Aren't they sweet?
I also made them in some other colors just for change of pace.
I thought these were kind of fun, the Autumn Fire mix with some black number 15s.
So like I said, once you get the hang of it, in an hour you can have a pair of earrings
for yourself and one for a friend.
