Creating tipped, swirled dreads will add an interesting new pattern to your dreadlock wardrobe.
I'm going to take four different colors and I'm going to do two swirled on the bottom and two swirled on the top.
For this demo we'll be doing the blonde and the brown for natural colors on the bottom.
And red and black for our swirled colors on the top. Let's take a look at the blending.
The first step in this process is to create our blends.
We're going to take our shorter colors.
Cut them down and position them over our longer colors.
And then create our blends.
So we're going to take this red.
I'm gonna cut it in half.
I'm gonna position it and cut away the ends.
Cause I want this to be a very clean, flat transition.
Now I'm gonna position this with my white fiber.
And I'm gonna do the same with the black to the brown.
I also want to make sure that my first fiber and my second fiber are roughly the same length so they'll have the same transition point.
Next, I'm gonna press the two fibers together so they become one solid transition.
I'm checking to make sure I have the right amount of fiber.
Next I'm just going to start my blending process.
And when I do that I'm gonna make sure that I keep these lines nice and clean on the bottom.
So when I stack, I make sure that I'm not adjusting these ends.
That they are all going back to being straight across.
Repeat this process for your other bundle.
With your blending complete, you're ready to start your backcombing.
Backcomb your two colors separately.
Start at the base.
And work your way out to the tips.
This will push your first color up so that it is a solid base.
Repeat this with your other color.
With your pieces backcombed, you're ready to start your twisting process.
We're going to slide these closer together.
Taking the first one, twisting it to the right.
Taking your second, also twisting that to the right.
Next you're ready to start your pass.
Pass the left one underneath.
Into your right hand.
Continue twisting.
Pass again from the left to the right hand. And continue twisting.
From here the pattern will start to emerge.
When you get to the ends of your fiber you're going to backcomb these two together. That'll keep this from unraveling.
Since this is done as a double-ended dread, we'll need to take our pieces and flip it over and repeat our twist on the other side
Once your twisting is done, seal with the method of your choice.
This will complete your tipped swirled dreads.
