The File Picker is used for all operations involving files.
There are several ways to reach it.
If you're on the home page of Moodle...
...you can select “My home” from the Navigation block.
At the next page in the “My private files” block...
...click “Manage my private files”.
Clicking the “Add” button will open the File Picker.
The second way to access the File Picker...
...is when you're adding content to a Moodle page.
In the “Content” block, click the “Add” button.
This will also open the File Picker.
The default is to view items as icons...
...however you can also view them as a list...
...if that is your work style.
Server files are files that are on the server...
...including legacy files from Moodle 1.9.
What you see on Server files will depend on...
...permissions you have in the system.
Clicking on “Recent files” will indicate...
...any files you've been working with recently.
Private files are files that you can upload to a private area...
...and then link to from a course.
To add a file to the system...
...click “Upload a file”.
This will open a box and you can click on “Choose file”
Locate the file you wish to upload...
...highlight it and click “Open”.
The file name will appear next to the “Choose file” …
...button in the File Picker.
Click “Upload this file”.
Click “Save and return to course”.
Another option is to click on “Recent files”...
...and then the document.
You can click "Select this file" and the file...
...will be moved to your private files area.
If you want it to remain there, click “Save changes”.
In the private files area you have several options...
...including creating a folder...
...downloading all the files in your private files area...
...and renaming, moving, and deleting files.
Just remember to click “Save changes”...
...when you've finished working on files.
