Hi, this is Joelle Meijer.
I will show you how to create a greeting card for Valentine's Day. Fold a piece of
white construction paper in half to form a card. Take a roll of toilet paper and
a pencil, draw a line lengthwise on the roll. Then, trace along the line with an
x-acto knife; this will mark the line without cutting the tube. Then press the line
you marked with the x-acto knife toward the inside of the tube. Draw a small pencil
line on the opposite side of the tube and make a fold along the entire length of
the tube. Once these two folds are in place, the profile of the tube forms a heart.
Take masking tape or any kind of adhesive tape and wrap it around the tube in order
to maintain the heart shape. When the tube is held together by masking tape, a young
child can handle it much more easily and the tube won't loose its shape. Dip the end
of the of the heart-shaped tube in the paint and then press on the white construction
paper. Repeat as many times as desired. You can also make heart-shaped impressions
using a potato. Cut a potato in half. Press a cookie cutter in the shape of a heart
on the flat part of the potato and then remove the flesh around the heart-shaped cutout
so that only the heart shape emerges from the rest of the potato. Dip the potato in
the paint and then print the heart on the white construction paper as many times as
you want. You can make a Valentine's Day card by combining the two techniques or
use one at a time. It's your choice! To access a free document with a detailed list
