Hello.
I'm Matthew Grant, director of content
strategy here at Aquent.
And I'm here with Jeremy Osborn, who's the academic
director for Aquent Gymnasium.
I invited Jeremy here to talk about our forthcoming course,
Responsive Web Design--
Promote Yourself Responsibly and Build a
Portfolio for All Devices.
So Jeremy, before we get into this, I thought could you just
tell us what responsive web design actually is?
Responsive web design you could think of it primarily as
being for layout.
But it is much more than that.
However, it's about having one set of content that simply
works great no matter how someone is using the site.
All right.
So the course itself, what's it going to cover?
What's it going to teach people?
The course takes on a lot of topics.
Primarily we're talking about things like responsive
typography, images, layout.
So that's really the core.
But we also have to be concerned with things such as
performance.
So we want to make sure that when someone comes to a
website that they're not getting
bogged down by the images.
And there's a lot of optimization that needs to
take place in order to have a great experience.
Who is the proper audience for this class?
You call it responsive web design, but it sounds like
it's actually pretty technical.
It is to a certain degree.
This is not a course geared towards beginners.
So someone who comes into the course should have a pretty
good understanding of HTML, CSS.
They should be really familiar and
comfortable with text editors.
They don't really need to know a lot of JavaScript, per se,
but they should know how to use it and be
comfortable using it.
So it is technically sophisticated, but hopefully
we do a good job of teaching people how to do it.
At the end of the course, what should someone be able to do
that they couldn't do before?
Right.
So again, the primary part is just making sure that things
like layouts change and flex depending on
the size of the screen.
So going through three columns to two columns, and typically
the single column for smartphones.
So that's the sort of thing that we're doing.
And again, the portfolio part of the
course is really important.
We want to make sure that people have content and a
final product that promotes themselves and all these new
skills that they're learning.
So once again, the course is called Responsive Web Design--
Promote Yourself Responsibly and Build a
Portfolio for All Devices.
You find out more about the course at
gymnasium.aquent.com.
It starts in early September.
Thanks.
