Helen Julia Minors is a senior lecturer and fellow French music researcher.
My research area devolves into two areas. Firstly, early twentieth century French music,
particularly music as cultural practice and the music's interaction with dance on stage.
My PhD explored the music of Paul Dukas, an early twentieth century French composer who
also had an extensive career writing with a criticism. You'll be able to link to a few
of my articles on Dukas on the website. I'm currently working on a book on recent text
and translation, exploring the idea how translation falls within a music frame, ie exploring the
translation and the transfer of sense between music and image, image in music, but also
between text of say song or an opera libretto with music and vice-versa. I'm also currently
working on a live composition using a live composing inter-disciplinary sound language,
called sound painting, with the creative artist Walter Thompson, for which I'm filming an
extended interview and leading some workshops and an ensemble.
