0:08 Hello, I'm James Bell here on the frozen fastlane.
0:11 See what I do for you? I stand here in Milford and I freeze,
0:13 To make sure you know what this company is up to.
0:15 Today it's all about potholes. 0:19 So obviously this has been a nasty winter,
potholes have been a big problem, 0:22 So we thought we'd come out to Milford
and find out just how intense the testing is
0:27 To make sure the pothole you go through does the least amount of damage.
0:34 The whole point of this place is to basically put a vehicle through 10 years of consumer
wear and tear 0:42 In the space of 6 months.
0:44 The way they do that is run the vehicle through all sorts of extreme tests.
0:52 We've got a whole different series of depths and extremities on these. Here's another.
0:59 And again, the premise being, that if the vehicle can run through this over and
over and over again, 1:05 And meet GM standards, then it's got
no problem at all of meeting the consumer's. 1:12 We all know this winter has been a nasty
winter and potholes have been a big problem, 1:15 But there are 3 things you can do to
protect yourself and your car: 1:18 First off is tire pressure. Make sure
they are inflated correctly, 1:20 And you know that number by looking at
the sticker in the door jamb. 1:24 Secondly, standing water -- don't trust
that it's over smooth pavement. 1:27 There might be a big pothole underneath.
1:30 And lastly, give yourself some distance. Make sure you have distance and opportunity
to avoid it. 1:36 If you hit a pothole, there are a couple
of things you need to do. 1:38 If you see that tire pressure light come
on, you might have a problem. 1:40 Also, it's a great idea to get out of
the car and have a look at the wheel that hit the pothole.
1:44 If you see any bulging in the side wall or any damage to the wheel itself,
1:48 You might be having a big problem. 1:50 And lastly, be very in-tune with your
vehicle. As you're driving and you feel something's not quite right,
1:56 The braking, the turning, the handling, something's not right, get yourself into a
dealer right away 2:00 And have it checked out.
