Fire Action Week runs November 17-24, a really critical time
about being prepared for this summer. What you do now
and what you do during the months of November/December is absolutely critical about
your safety
for preparing yourself for what could be a very
serious summer period. Understanding the fire risk
talking about what it means to you and your family the people you live with in your
household
is critical about your preparedness
that not only that, you and your friends. It's important to understand where to find
information,
find information that is relevant for you to make good decisions
about your safety. It's time to think now, it's time Fire Action Week brings that
for you to start thinking about the things you need to do
and you need to do with others. The fire risk is different depending on where you
live.
Living near cities on outer metropolitan areas where there is grassland;
living in rural areas we're it interfaces with with scrub, grass or bushland
all of offer different challenges at different times.
It's up to you to be aware of what they do and build into your plans about how
you will
successfully deal with that. For information regarding
all of our fire information you can visit the CFA website
or contact the Victorian Bushfire Information line,
or attend community meetings or workshops and we are offering this year
an Auslan interpreter service by contacting
the CFA district office to allow
an interpreter to be part of the community meetings where appropriate.
This year we will have a new FireReady application.
This will be available for this fire season.
The new app will provide access and information in regards to official
warnings,
planned burns and other types of
incidents that are occurring across Victoria. There will also be a new website
which will be a one-stop-shop that provides information not only on fire
but fire, floods and storms, a great new initiative
something we're very excited about. It is also important to make sure that you
have more than one source of information. The Victorian Bushfire Information Line is a
number you can ring,
the CFA website, our new web portal will be important,
the smartphone application
are all ways in which information can be provided to you
and it's up to you to make sure you know how to access that information.
We will also be running weekly videos
at the start of the a each week to describe what the challenges will be
and the level of threat or preparedness we need to have in place.
That's been important service and we'll use the Auslan
interpreter to ensure that we can best describe
current information to you in a timely way. This week, being Fire Action Week is an
important part of the journey,
it's the start of something. Let's make sure that we use Fire Action Week to
prompt us to do
the things we need to do but don't stop here
let's work hard in November and December to make sure we've got the things we need
to do to have in place.
Its up to all us to have the responsibility,
it's up to you to take the steps to ensure that your safety is critical.
Know where to get the information, have a plan,
put it in place, don't get a position that it's all to late,
it's all too hard, which compromises your safety and your decision-making.
The other it's really important is a partnership with
VicDeaf. VicDeaf has been a great partner over the last 12 months,
we look forward to continuing that this summer, it's a great partner something
we value and I'm sure you value
the same extent. We will continue to work closely
and will ensure that you get what we can provide in a way in which you can use
it.
Thank you.
