Generally speaking, we give them local anesthesia to try to prevent any pain at the site where we go in
with the small tube called the sheath. And then, following that, we give them medication to basically make
them forget and to relax. Both of those medications are called local anesthesia with conscious sedation. In
other words, we don’t put them totally to sleep. They may feel some pressure or discomfort at the site
where we’re working, but that tends to go away as soon as we apply the anesthesia. And, most patients
don’t remember much about the procedure when it’s done, and they wake up immediately when we’re
completed.
