This week I decided to address and issue that comes up with a lot of business owners and
it was something that I was discussing with a friend of mine during the week.
You see we met after yoga and we were chatting and he was talking about the new business
he was about to start and he was telling me how he just needed to get the website finished
and once he had the website and the website was perfect then he would be able to take
his business forward and he was also saying how he wanted to reach out to this person.
And this person and with his business eh wanted to connect with all of these different types
of people from really young to really old to really beautiful to really successful you
know everybody he was saying that his business idea was suitable for everybody and I am afraid
I had to burst his bubble.
You donÕt have a very specific marketing message that you are targeting to a very specific
group of people then you are going to appeal to nobody.
Here are my 3 top steps that you must do first before you do anything whenever you are trying
to launch and grow a new business.
1. You must know exactly how the money comes into the Business: The only way you can know
how the money comes into your business is to be absolutely crystal clear of the products
and the services you are offering.
2. You must know your perfect customer profile: Now I am not talking about a niche here, a
niche is more of a group of people that you want to target with your products and services.
If you really want to develop your marketing messages you must not only know your niche
you must know your perfect customer profile.
Your perfect customer profile is your ideal customer written down to such specific detail
that you know their eye color, their hair color, their income, how many cars they have
everything. If you want to speak to a certain market you not only have to appeal to their
likes and dislikes you need to appeal to their deepest fears. What are they thing right before
they hit the buy button for your product. What are they scared of and what they are
hoping might be true.
3. What is your business Strategy: You need to have a strategy for your business. A company
once that I was reading about in case study developed a very, very clear strategy for
their business in fact they went so far so as to make a strategy map which every single
employee put in their cubicle or in their office. Now whenever somebody wanted to invest
in training or the wanted to invest in a new piece of software what the higher level management
of the company would do is consult the strategy campus, they would look at it and say is this
investment in line with our strategy. If it was then they can settle the investment, if
it wasnÕt they didnÕt.
if you know what the strategy for your company, what value you are going to offer your customers
and what you are not going to invest in you will be able to make decisions very quickly
and very strategically that not only serves the company but serves your target market.
