So, maybe when you're thinking about dressing retro, maybe you've decided to go mod, wear
black, put in white accessories, heavy eyeliner. Or, maybe you've decided to go hippie and
use colorful prints, natural fabrics and looser fitting clothing. But, either way you're going
to need accessories for both of them. And so, headbands, much as they were popular in
the 50's, continue to be popular in the 60's. Now the mods wore the thicker headbands like
the one I was wearing earlier, like this white one right here. You can see how thick it is.
It's a neutral color. Another one that you might wear if you wear if you were a mod would
be this one, which is also thick. This is more of a neutral. It's actually a shade a
hippie might wear but it's not really a style a hippie would wear. Headbands for hippies
were more like the one I'm wearing right now. Worn like so, which is actually supposed to
be reminiscent of Native American head wear. That's actually where that trend with hippies
came from. But if you were going to wear a normal headband as a hippie you would want
it to have a floral print and be in color like this one. This is actually a really nice
way to add a sort of hippie aspect to a more modern wardrobe because it's the same kind
of print and color that the hippies would wear. Now the last fundamental thing, I mentioned
it earlier, is the use of tights. For anything other than hippie fashion which really revolved
around bare feet and sandals, tights were very, very, very important. You didn't wear
a mini skirt without tights. You wore tights under your pants on certain occasions. Really,
before the conventions were broken in the later part of the 60's, tights were the key
to not looking too trampy, is really the best way to put it. I have some to show you down
here. These are pattern tights. They would more likely to be worn by a mod. Once again,
they're gray and white. And, tights in the 60's either had, if they didn't have a pattern,
if they were a solid they would have some sort of really great texture. Like maybe a
cable knit or stripes. And so, you really want to look to the accessories because they're
really going to make your dressing retro look really authentic.
