Well here's a little something you might want to have with your steak. It's the
only food we eat that is
more millions a few years old. My goodness that's a long shelf life
and there's a Woodinville company that making millions selling it. Saltworks
is the biggest gourmet salt company in the world and it's probably the only
company where the lunch room tables
have this selection have salty goodness. Don't forget salts not just flavoring
it keeps you alive. First air, then water,
and then sodium chloride, believe it or not,
then food. So you actually die from not having salt
before you will from not having food. At SaltWorks they make hundreds of
tasty ways to avoid
death by sodium deficiency. Local companies from Sahale Snacks to
La Panzanella use their sea salt. They've reached cult status as well.
If you crave the one-of-a-kind sprinkles on top in the salted caramel mocha
made by well-known local coffee company. You've craved SaltWorks salt.
SaltWorks began twelve years ago when owners Mark Zoske and Naomi
Novotny
wanted to flavor their food with something tastier than table salt.
It started very small, like in the spare bedroom of our house.
Today SaltWorks is located in a 130,000 square-foot facility
and this year's sales will hit twenty million dollars.
In Roman times sought was money. Salt
is the root for the word salary. Salt
pays the salary have some 60 employees here.
Sea salt from all over the world arrives in twenty-two thousand pound increments.
Now that's a salt shaker. This machine
mixes flavors into the salt. Here's another way to
add flavor. Some of their most popular salts are smoked
over pecan, almond, oak. I just load it into the smoker here.
Once the salts flavored its sorted for size and color.
After a visit to SaltWorks you'll never see salt
the same way again. The mineral you sprinkle on your steak can be
ancient. So it's a 300 million year old ocean
and so they laid down the different layers of the ocean. So the salt was formed millions and millions of years ago.
So it is the purest salt. We weren't around on the Earth to
pollute the water.
From pink Himalayan sea salt to purple grains infused with Merlot.
The final product is a rainbow of colors and flavors.
And these two salt sellers have big plans
for the future. Mark's goal is to make the world's best salt.
In taste, texture, and everything. -and in process.
I mean I want it to be I wanna truly to be the best solved world to be the
cleanest most minerals
and taste the best.
