The uniqueness of the Hankyoreh can be explained in many ways. Firstly, around 60 thousand citizens contributed towards launching the Hankyoreh.
The Hankyorech is thus not owned by one owner or a company but it is owned by Korean citizens. It is this ownership structure that defines the uniqueness of the Hankyorech.
Secondly, the Hankyorech is seeking democracy and the peaceful reunification of our divided nation. Furthermore, we are also seeking internal democracy.
Journalists, employees and shareholders of the Hankyorech elect the president and managing editor democratically.
Moreover, the Hankyorech has an equal wage system that is applied to all employees regardless of their positions.
These are the foundations and the power of the Hankyorech.
As a matter of fact, we are also worried about the digital era. However, we do think that the public's trust in the press is the most important thing even in the digital era.
The Hankyorech originated in trust and this has proven to be the key to the our success in the digital era, such as in having the most retweeted press articles and being the most shared paper on Facebook.
In this context, it is not important whether the newspaper era is ending soon. As long as the Hankyorech is supported by the public, selecting which platform we use to distribute our content is a relatively secondary issue.
We are preparing for a digital publishing environment. We have already made applications for IPhone and IPad. We are now nearly ready to launch web applications for Android and others.
I believe that the Hankyoreh is already starting to achieve the expected results.
