So here we are in another installment of Lydia's chat with
the faculty or professor Loren chats with other professors
it's the weekend before Thanksgiving so it's actually the
Friday before the weekend before thanksgiving
and I thought maybe this would be a good day to see what
people are up to so let's see who we can go meet.
How are you doing?
I'm good, how are you doing?
I'm doing just fine. Hey listen I'm taking those videos that I told you about.
You were telling me about a conference you were at a couple weeks ago
Yeah it was great. I received a fellowship from the National
Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, so every September they
convene this panel of bankruptcy judges and they review
scholarship from the previous 12 months and they select a scholar
to receive this fellowship as a recognition of their work from
the previous 12 months and surprisingly I was chosen this year
Oh I'm not surprised at all. It was for a particular article that you wrote?
It was. I wrote an article about leverage buyouts and fraudulent transfer laws
so as part of the fellowship they flew me down to sunny San Diego
and I was allowed to attend their annual conference where
all these wonderful bankruptcy court judges around the country
come to this conference, and there's lots of presentations and
the great opportunity for me to talk about my next article,
but also to network with these judges, a lot of these judges
are looking for clerks down the road so for our students,
you know to the extent that they're applying for clerkships and they ask
for me to be reference I can write a letter of recommendation
to someone who I have met and I know and I've talked to
and hopefully they respect my scholarship a little bit so my
word goes a little bit further.
Well that's fantastic. Congratulations on the award! I'll let you get back to work.
Thanks.
So that was professor Samir Parikh he joined our faculty
I don't know about 4 or 5 years ago and that honor that
he received from the federal bankruptcy judges, that's a
pretty big deal, so I know he was very excited about the
conference he met lots of people and like he said
he met lots of federal bankruptcy judges. So one of the things that
law students do after law school, one of the career paths is
they might clerk for a federal judge or clerk for a state court
judge and that's a really great opportunity to see the inside
workings of how the judicial process works. Not many
lawyers have that kind of inside information so we're here to
help our students get those clerkships if that's what they're
interested in. So the clerkship could be with a bankruptcy
judge it could be with a state court judge, a state supreme
court judge or a federal district court judge, lots of different options.
So I hope you liked meeting Samir.
