Hello and Welcome to this video tutorial on how to upload photos for your digital camera
to your computer.
Saving your photos to a computer is always a good idea because it provides a backup copy
of the pictures just in case something happens to your camera or memory card.
Also once the photos are saved as files on your computer it will be very easy to upload
them to websites such as Facebook or send them to someone as an email attachment.
First you will need to attach either your camera or memory card to your PC.
This can be done a couple of ways.
If your computer has a port that accepts the camera’s memory card or SD card push the
card into that slot until it clicks.
A second way would be to use the USB cord that came with your camera.
With the SD card still in the camera plug in the cord.
Then slide the USB end into your computer and turn the camera on.
Remember never force anything into your camera or computer.
In most instances once your camera or SD card connects to the computer a window will automatically
open listing a few options.
If you see an option to import photos or to open a camera wizard you can use these tools
to let your camera walk you through the process of uploading and saving the pictures.
If neither of these options appears you can always manually upload the photos by opening
the ‘Computer’ or ‘My Computer’ icon on your desktop.
From here you should see a new storage area listed representing your camera or SD card.
This might say removable disk in the case of an SD card or the brand and model of your
camera if you connected with the USB cord.
Click on this storage area or drive to open it.
If you see a folder for removable storage, open that as well.
You should then see a DCIM folder this is where all of your digital photos are stored.
When you open that folder you may also see one or more subfolders that serve to organize
your photos into manageable groups.
Each of your photos will be saved as a picture file in one of these folders.
When you are ready to copy these files to your computer you may move them as an entire
folder or just one at a time.
To do this simply click and drag the file or folder to the location you would like it
saved and drop it there.
You could choose to save them right to your desktop or to the pictures folder under ‘Libraries’.
If you don’t see a pictures folder ‘My Documents’ will work as well.
If you have a Flash Drive attached to your PC you could also click and drag the pictures
there in order to save them onto a portable storage device.
If you are looking for a specific picture and have opened up one of the subfolders you
may want to set your view as ‘Large Icons’ in order to see a thumbnail or preview version
of the picture.
You’ll notice that most digital photos are instantly saved and named with a generic number
once the picture is taken.
To rename the file as something more relevant, right click on it and choose ‘Rename’.
Type in a new for the picture file and press ‘Enter’.

Congratulations!
You are now ready to upload photos from your digital camera and save them on to your computer.
