Doctor: …both ears and it might be a bit overwhelming at first.
I’ll say the days of the week again. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
Sunday.
Jo: (cries)
How does it sound? Just be careful you’re not going to knock them off.
Can you hear my voice coming through both sides?
Jo: Yes. Yes, it sounds…it sounds very high.
Doctor: Very high? It will sound high-pitched at first. Your brain will readjust it for
you. It won’t always sound that way.
Jo: I’m sorry, I’m just…
Doctor: It’s alright; it’s a big, big life-changing day today. Can you hear your
own voice?
Jo: Yes.
Doctor: Good.
Jo: It sounds very, very strange
Doctor: Yes it will do…. You’ve done so well Joanne. It’s such a huge thing that
you’ve just achieved. You should be really proud of yourself. It’s just been fantastic.
Jo: Thank you
Jo’s mum: Right, smile!
Jo: Wow, wow, thank you.
Doctor: Well done, it is a wow moment. It is.
Jo: It’s just amazing.
Doctor: Can you hear yourself speaking?
Yes. I can, but it’s more you. But like I said, it sounds very, very high-pitched
Doctor: It does at first; it won’t stay high-pitched. It won’t stay like that. I’m
going to say the months of the year…
Jo: Okay.
Doctor: I want you to tell me how the volume is – both sides. January, February, March,
April, May
Jo: (laughs)
Doctor: …June, July, August, September, October, November, December. (laughs) Could
you hear those words?
Jo: Yes. Yes – yes I did!
