Today's Tekzilla Daily is brought to you by Netflix
WELCOME TO TEKZILLA DAILY, I'M VERONICA BELMONT
Here on Tekzilla Daily, we love telling you about some of the awesome Chrome extensions
that we find on the web store. But, for those of you who prefer to live a little... dangerously...
let's talk about how to install a Chrome extension without using the web store at all!
So why does this even matter, you may be asking? Well, sometimes there are extensions out there
that haven't yet been approved by Google for the web store, but that still work wonderfully.
Of course, they haven't been vetted yet, but that's part of the risk you'll be taking.
If you try to install an extension that isn't from the webstore, you'll get this message:
"Extensions, apps, and user scripts can only be added from the Chrome Web Store." Well
we can do something about that. First download the CRX file of any Chrome extension /web-app
to your computer. Next, click the Settings icon in Chrome and go to Tools -> Extensions.
Drag and drop the CRX file on this page and Chrome will gladly install the add-on.
There you have it! It's actually a lot easier than you might expect... it's mostly just
a drag and drop thing. You can also use this to install unofficial greasemonkey scripts
too. So give it a shot sometime, and thanks to labnol.org for the tip!
Now if you've got a tip for us to pass along to the rest of the TZ crew? Email us at tekzilla
