Hi, I'm Ebony Turner and I am FEMA.
I am an External Affairs Specialist, so
I work in the Office of External Affairs
here at FEMA Headquarters.
When there is a disaster with the
federal response we help to coordinate
all the messaging that goes out to the
other agencies, the local officials, and
the survivors.
I'm actually from Louisiana, and during
Hurricane Katrina I was looking for a
way to volunteer and just help everyone
in my community to get back on their
feet, and I went to a local hiring
agency and got a job with FEMA and I've
been with them ever since.
What I like most about working with
FEMA is I really feel like I'm making a
difference because I feel like I'm a
vital part of making our nation better
in the sense that we're helping the
first responders. We're helping
individual citizens just be be prepared,
to recover, and to know more about
helping each other out and making a
community effort.
If you want a challenge, come to FEMA.
It's a very fluid and dynamic
environment. We have a lot to do. Our
role is very important, and it would
definitely be a challenge.
