Hampyeong Butterfly Festival kicks off this weekend
The Hampyeong Butterfly Festival kicked off in South Jeolla Province this past Friday.
Fields of spectacular flowers and a colorful kaleidoscope of spring butterflies are greeting
family and friends alike this weekend. Our Sean Lim has the story.
Hampyeong County is again hosting its iconic butterfly festival with ecological-themed
exhibits filled with waves of beautiful butterflies. Among the region's favorite medley of delicate
creatures include the tiger swallowtail and the garden white butterfly.
The festival will be holding numerous events and programs for the whole family over the
next two weeks.
"There're so many butterflies and insect exhibits. There's so more to do than I first thought."
Over 150,000 butterflies among 23 species will be showcased in the exhibition halls,
along with a hands-on area where visitors can see and touch a variety of animals and
plants. It's an incredible opportunity for kids to
learn about nature in a safe, interactive environment.
"Spotting a tiger swallowtail butterfly isn't easy, but coming here and seeing one hatch
was really amazing."
During the festival period, the whole town of Hampyeong will be covered with lights and
decorations. Mudfish catching, livestock events, and music
performances will also be adding to the fun experience.
"It's an eco-friendly, butterfly-centered program where students can come to see and
touch butterflies. They'll likely learn a lot as they observe the insect lifecycle."
The festival will run through May 8th with this year celebrating the festival's 15th
anniversary. Sean Lim, Arirang News.#
