bjbjN Hi, this is Chris from the Adaptive Services Division of the DC Public Library
and the Library for the Blind Physically Handicapped. This is one of a series videos going over
How to Log in and browse and then Download NLS books from the BARD web site, and we re
going to go over logging in and browsing the web site for books. So, we re in that National
Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped downloadable books and magazines,
Braille, audio and reading download page for BARD, and the first thing that we re seeing
is some form fields and an email address and password. And you can find that out by going
to INSERT F 5. So that's the first form we need to fill out to log
in. So we're going to press ENTER m going to type in my email address
And then you re going to TAB down to go to your password. And then you re going to TAB down to the LOG IN button. Okay,
for some reason BARD jumps all the way down To the heading level 2 FIND MAGAZINES, so
to get to the top of the page you press INSERT F 6 for the Heading List.
And then you just ARROW all the way to the top. Okay, if you look
at these different headings, there BARD MAIN PAGE, FIND BOOKS . Okay,
RECENTLY ADDED BOOKS are books that have been added in the last month. It's a link and it
s a way to of browsing books. That's another way to find the most popular
books That have been the most downloaded in the past ninety days. Okay,
that leads to a forms field where you can enter in key words for searching for specific
titles or authors. And that's if you re just going to browse by the
first letter of the last name of an author. Same standard, first letter
of title. And that gives you a list o subjects to browse by. Okay, and then there s the magazines and the like. So let s go back up to SEARCH
THE COLLECTION because I do have a certain book that I m looking for, and press ENTER.
Okay, and now I'm going to press the, I can either press the DOWN
arrow to get to that form Or I could press F to get to the form for
SEARCH THE COLLECTION and press ENTER. And now I m in the form. Now I m
going this On behalf of my mother, who is a patron, and she's looking for Nora Roberts
books for a trip we re going On, which is called THE CALHOUNS. So, I ll type that in.
m gonna TAB GO button so I m going to press SPACE to activate.
Okay, so all those links you heard: Two in the titles, zero in the
subject, Zero in the author, zero in the subject, zero in the annotation Zero in the book number
And zero in the Narrator, They re all different search fields that BARD uses, and as you heard
it found two different CALHOUN books in the title. and that's a link too, so I m going
to go make it easier by hitting the JAWS key and F 7 and going to that link. And then ARROW UP to number 2 in the title. first yeah I;m
going to press DOWN m going to press ENTER, I m sorry. So what you
heard, it gave you The author of the title and an annotated description of the book.
And then the last thing you heard was a link To DOWNLOAD THE CALHOUNS Catherine, Amanda
and Leah and it gave you a book member and that s a link, and that's where we would go
to download the book which I'm going to do in the next segment 0:00:05 sirsi-lbph Normal
