Hello and welcome to another edition of ResourcesForLife.tv at ResourcesForLife.com
My name is Greg Johnson and this is a
brief video
testing out the
high definition video reporting capabilities of the new iPhone 4
I was really excited a year ago, basically it was,
when the iPhone 3GS
came out and...
was really the the first phone to offer
a nice user interface with [video] trimming and that kind of thing
for uploading videos
directly to YouTube.
My only regret at the time was that the
quality of the video,
because of the six forty by for eighty,
the quality of the video
really was not
that exceptional, you know... [partly because of quality loss during uploading]
and so
when I do
multi-media work
whether it's with music, or photos, or video
I really like to deliver high-quality content
at least technically
the production
of the content
should be high quality, and
hopefully,
as well, what I am
saying is
of interest and high quality, but you know the technical delivery,
the clearly of it,
I want that to be high quality, and so
that was one of my...
I guess misgivings, you know with
with the iPhone 3GS was that it was only the 640 x 480 [video resolution]. So, now,
with the iPhone 4 from apple
we have
high definition video.
I've not even seen
what kind of quality this is going to come out like. I don't even know,
even as I'm recording. This is my first
video
with the iPhone 4.
What I'm hoping to gain
are a couple of things
with the iPhone 4.
Number one...
certainly when the conditions are equal [lighting and sound]
that iPhone 4 in high definition video would be producing
much better quality video.
Much clearer.
Much sharper.
But there were some times when I could not really record,
at least I couldn't record a quality video,
with the Apple
iPhone 3GS
because what I was finding is that
background sounds were a real issue.
Wind blowing was a real issue,
and trying to take video
in conditions where
there wasn't a lot of light...
that would produce
really poor quality results.
and so...
I was just not producing as much video
as I would have liked to.
I would wait until
the conditions were right [lighting and sound]
to create a video,
and so that really limited me.
What I'm hoping with the iPhone 4
is that
I'll be able to record video on days like today when it's, we're
actually starting to look the rain,
you know when it's overcast.
...and
that despite the low light levels
I'm hoping the quality will still be there with the video.
If you've done anything with regular photography you know that
if you don't have really good light,
in your resulting photograph, you get what's called noise.
You know, like little speckles. It's not quite
crisp. It doesn't pop, you know,
even if you have a nicer camera
you to end up having a super-nice camera
to get good quality
pictures in low light
ÉanywayÉ
The same is true with video.
If you don't have
a lot of light,
it's hard to get really crisp
video,
high quality video, that pops [stands out]
É but we'll see how the iPhone 4 does.
So that's one issue,
is the lighting,
and then the other issue
is
the other is... You know there is a lot of background noise outside. I like to do these videos
when I'm in transit
either walking or
riding my bike
or driving the car or whatever,
I like to
produce these videos
and the answer
user questions
that come in
or video responses that get posted.
I provide computer support
and there really isn't enough time in the day to answer the hundreds of e mails that I get in, so
what I try to do is aggregate those e mails
and
identify what are some of the common questions that people have
and then I'll post
written articles
on the web site to answer
some of those questions
so,
anyway and that's why with
these videos
I'm able to
answer some of your questions are coming in.
Right now have about
three thousand emails in the in box
that I'm trying to get back to
so most of those
responses to those emails are going to be in the form of of
articles
on the web site
or they may be
instead of articles they might be videos or both.
I'll try to offer of mix of
media responses.
I'm trying to get some pictures of some of these flowers here
and
actually with this Retina Display [Apple display technology on iPhone 4]
things kind of,
I know this may be hard to believe, but things look better on this
Retina display than they do in reality.
I guess that's a good thing.
I'm curious to see how I can adjust the exposure for this flower. Yeah, this is pretty amazing.
and if the
screen quality is any indication of what this video is going to look like when
it finally uploaded to YouTube
I would say it's pretty impressive,
and if the photo quality is as good as what I'm seeing on the screen right now,
as I've been monitoring this,
it should be a very good product.
Anyway, that's basically it. This is
primarily a test video and
a commentary about
the iPhone 4. I just got
one of the new ones in today.
This is my first chance to test it out.
but those of the the two key areas. Lighting quality of
video images despite low lighting conditions and then also
with the background sounds,
I know that there's noise cancellation
because
on the phone there's a microphone at the top of the phone and also one at the
bottom you talk into.
The idea is that the microphone on the top of the phone
will monitor
background ambient noise
and then
the microphone on the
bottom of the phone
will it be your recording device.
And so it can integrate, and incorporate that
to offer
sound canceling, noise canceling of the background noise
I don't know if that works in the video recording mode
so I guess we'll find that out here.
I'm going to close with this one last picture here. It's kind of amazing,
here on the street,
there's this flower bed that just kind of
stretches for
quite a distance here
Let's get a little zoom in on this bee here.
I'll try to focus while [I record the video]
As you know, you're able to,
with the iPhone 3GS, for photography
and I guess now with the upgraded iOS 4 and of course with the iPhone 4
you can't touch the display screen to focus,
to set both the focus and the lighting
for whatever
object is in your viewer.
AnywayÉ thanks for tuning in.
I guess you'll find out as soon as I do
what kind of quality the iPhone 4 has
for recording and producing videos.
in low lighting
and with some background noise.
Take care. This is Greg Johnson again
with ResourcesForLife.com
and ResourcesForLife.tv thanking you for joining and tuning in.
