Floodwaters poured over my skin
Like an acid,
it burned my flesh and bones.
If I could choose where in this journey to begin,
I would start from where history is not carved in stones.
I would like to be born in a land that doesn't judge based on the blood that runs
through my veins.
A land that would not question neither my father nor my mother's given names.
Rather, would look at what I have done to unlock my chains.
I would toil and drop my sweat on a fertile soil where the seeds of love can grow.
An unconditional love that can conquer anyone's anger, fear, and sorrow.
No more homelessness, hunger, bloodsheds, and pain to endure.
For in this farmland,
we can harvest the amity's fruit for cure.
I dream to hear the babies' first cry on a promising land
that would defend their brightest future.
A civilized society that fights ignorance and respects every other creature.
In a glaring sunlight,
I believe my brothers and sisters would gain a flaming courage.
Like an owl,
their eyes would open wide as they free themselves from a gilded cage.
They'll learn to reach down to lift someone else up
until social ranking is forgotten.
With equal privileges, rights, status, and opportunities, my land will never be rotten.
Tonight, I dream that tomorrow this dream would not just be a dream.
But, a morning sunlight
that would lead us to live life to the extreme.
Tonight, I dream that tomorrow this dream would not just be a dream.
But, a morning sunlight
on our nation
that would forever gleam.
