And so the Apple maps saga continues. The world’s top tech company - a company that
pushes for perfection now is formally apologizing for its own Maps app.
The company released a statement on its website Friday morning saying - in part -
“At Apple, we strive to make world-class products that deliver the best experience
possible to our customers. With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on
this commitment. We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused ... and we
are doing everything we can to make Maps better.”
The letter was signed by CEO Tim Cook - and he offered software alternatives, suggesting
users try Bing, MapQuest, and yes even Google.
HLN jokes the company is trying its best to make things right after it drove people all
over the place - literally.
“People were -- if they followed the directions they would have driven into a river. It's
become the butt of countless internet jokes and made apple look not smart for first time,
which is its whole brand.”
So the blame game goes. But Business Insider says its not Tim Cook. Blame the award winning
creator of iOS - Scott Forstall, who’s now on record for back to back big blunders.
“This is his second consecutive high-profile screw up with iOS software. Last year he pushed
Apple to add Siri to iOS. Siri has been an embarrassment for Apple.”
So as Apple starts stacking more data in the cloud, most agree the glitchy app will get
better. And GigaOM notes in terms of sales Apple’s still doing alright.
“...With sales beginning a day and a half after problems with Maps started leaking out
... customers are still lining up to buy the new phones.”
