Every year, the seven north london boroughs collect almost nine hundred
thousand tons of waste, produced by homes and businesses.
Only twenty nine percent of household waste in the area is recycled; a large
amount is incinerated and turned into energy.
the rest is sent to landfill where costs are rising fast. by recycling more and sending less to
landfill we will support north london's economy, keeping council tax down and
generating income. By 2020 we want to recycle fifty percent of what
gets thrown away. To reduce landfill and increase recycling we need to start
replacing north london's aging waste treatment facilities with new, more
efficient ones. The new facilities will separate more of the waste, ready to be
made into lots of new products. What's not recycled will be turned into fuel to
power homes and businesses. The North London Waste Authority will be doing its best to extract more
recyclable material from what gets thrown away
but you can make an even bigger difference or reducing reusing and sorting
your rubbish.
We're all responsible for the waste and we produce. It's important that we start
saving money and helping the environment by making some changes now, but we're
going to need your help. Shop smart. Waste less and Recycle more.
