JEFF: Firefox has released an update that provides additional protection against unsecured
content on the internet.
Though Blackboard is a secure site, some content that has been embedded into courses is known
as "Mixed", or securely embedded from a less-than secure source.
These new protections are causing the "Mixed" embedded content, such as videos and other
flash powered media, to not show up in Blackboard, even though your flash and java may be up
to date.
Fortunately, there is a quick and easy fix to get your content to display once again.
If you reach a page where media is referred to, but all it shows is a blank space, look
for a small grey shield icon next to the address bar in the top left-hand corner of your Firefox
browser.
Click this shield and then click the drop down next to the "Keep Blocking" button.
Select "Disable Protection on This Page"
This will refresh your course and most likely take you back to the Announcements page. Navigate
back to your content and it should be displaying now.
Unfortunately, this only temporarily enables you to view the content. If you leave the
course and come back, you'll need to click on "Disable Protection" again.
Though this issue may not be happening in other browsers, Firefox is still the browser
of choice for Blackboard in the grand scheme of things.
Thank you for your patience and please don't hesitate to contact the CII for Blackboard
assistance should you continue to experience technical issues. We're happy to help!
