How we see ourselves isn't how others see us.
I think this is a hard truth to accept.
But such knowledge is so important.
Making others see us through our own eyes, now there's a challenge for an artist!
And we have a wonderful tool with which to create such vision.
We're all walking works of art when you think about it.
As artists we use different materials to produce our work. Paint, stone, film, etc.
But what about ourselves?
I am a writer. With my hands and my mind I write the words
that form the stories that come from my heart. I can take you to distant worlds or define
the simplicity of a flower in spring.
I am an actor. With my body and my voice I become what others want to be, what I wish
I were. I paint my face, I put on costumes, my body is a tool dressed up and turned into
something others see.
I am a dancer. I use arms, my legs, my entire body to move -- to explore and defy gravity
and space. I fly with emotion and who I am.
I am a painter: I see the world through my own eyes and put it on canvas. My imperfect
vision shows you what I see. It brings the insid of my mind out, exposing it to you.
I am a singer: with my voice I can rock your soul or make you weep from my sad lament.
A siren singing you to your dreams or the rocks on which you crash.
My imagination fills in all the rest.
With my body, I project your vision in my own image. You WILL see me as I see myself.
You will not see my pain, you will not see my imperfection that limits
who you think I am. You will not see my weakness,
unless, with my own body,
I choose to show you this.
