Hi, I'm Vickie Pavone on behalf of Expert Village. In this series we'll be talking about
the basics of cross stitching. This clip is the basic supplies you need for cross stitching.
There are two types of cross stitching. The first being stamped cross stitching which
comes with the pattern already stamped on to it and you just cross over the x's on the
pattern. Then there is counted cross stitching where there is no pattern on your fabric.
We have different kinds of fabric called Aida cloth, come in eleven through twenty-two.
The numbers indicate how many holes per inch. The smaller the number, the bigger the holes.
Which makes a bigger picture. The higher the number, the smaller the holes which makes
a smaller picture. It also comes in even cloth. Even weave linen in size twenty-eight and
size thirty-two. Same here the smaller the number, the bigger the picture. Aida cloth
also comes in patterns now that you design over. We have floss which comes in many, many
colors. The color is indicated by the number on the floss package. You have hoops, two
kinds, the spring hoop and one that goes together with a screw. Needles, tapestry needles their
called. You have ways to organize. You can either put your floss on little cards or on
these kind of cards. We have pearl cotton which also comes in different numbers and
colors. The smaller the number the thicker the thread. The higher the number the thinner
the thread. Your basic scissors. Your basic patterns. Patterns come in books, single patterns,
catalogs where you can buy them, different kinds. And then of course you have your embellishments
which are little charms, this case they are stars and bells.
