Hi! I’m Janie Yasko-Mangum with Successful Style and Image. Today on Expert Village,
I am going to teach you about the elements of clothing. Did you all think that you had
elements of clothing? You probably didn’t. They are cut fabric, pattern design and color,
so those are the four elements of clothing. Have you ever thought about the elements of
clothing when you are putting on your clothes for the day; whether it is work or at a social
event? Well now, you probably need to. When we are talking about fabric, I know right
now I am going to get some shuddering going on when you are watching this but your shorts
and your pants should not be 100 percent cotton. You know what I am talking about. You need
to have fabric that is a polyester or rayon blend. If you are out of college, no longer
have the cotton shorts. Now I’m talking about structured cotton shorts. I’m not
talking about coaching or athletic shorts, I am talking about structured shorts, or slacks,
no more cotton. I don’t care what age you are, you need to limit your cotton. Get some
polyester blends, micro fiber, something with some Teflon in it. Look at the color. Get
some vibrant color in your wardrobe. It could be a deep beautiful navy blue, it could be
a burgundy. You see on our model right here, beautiful burgundy color. It can be a green;
it can even be some purple. Look at the color. Look at the design, look at the pattern. You
see here in this short shirt we had an inlay of design. I’m sure that you can see it.
Still part of the burgundy but it is an inlay, it’s a design. Look at patterns and designs
in your shirts. Also, look at your cut. A lot of times men don’t have as many cuts
as women do in their clothing but you need to look at the cut. If you are built more
athletically, you don’t want a shirt that is too big for you. You want one that has
inside seams that contour to your body. If you are very tall and slender, you don’t
want a cut that is going to make you look even skinnier. You want to add some bulk,
so you need to look. You don’t want to maybe go to the Tall & Men Shop; maybe an x-large
or large will work just fine on you. So when you are looking at all this, looking at the
color, the cut, the pattern, design and the fabric; when you are looking at fabric, you
need to find fabrics in your shirt from golf shirts to long sleeve to short sleeve shirts
that have a polyester blend and rayon blend, micro fiber blend; not always a 100 percent
casual cotton Thank you.
