How do I write a resume?
Well, we write the resume to ensure we get the interview.
So we want our resume to stand out from all the other resumes
the interviewer is going to be reading through.
So, what helps them?
We want to position ourselves as the clear candidate for the role.
We want to give them relevant information about why our job history is suitable
for this position, and more than suitable, is outstandingly matched for this position.
So each resume you send in will be slightly tailored to suit
the job specifications as best you understand them
for each position.
You want to go in reverse chronological order
for your job history.
So what that really means is most recent job first,
second most recent job.
You also want to do one thing that is going to help you stand out massively,
keep your resume short.
Two pages, three absolute maximum.
No one cares what you did at high school, unless it is your first time job.
No one cares what you were doing ten...twelve years ago, unless it
is particularly technically relevant.
So go through your most recent history that is most likely to be most relevant
to this position.
Keep your resume short.
Think of it from the interviewer's point of view, they might have fifty applications
to cull through to get through to a short list
of five or eight people to interview.
After page after page after page of sending in, and I have received ten,
twelve, fifteen page resumes, they make the decision
in about the first thirty seconds.
You have got what's on that front page to really grab their attention.
