So you are a little worried because your acupuncture physician or herbalist said that you have
a liver deficiency. Hi, my name is Mark Brinson, doctor of oriental medicine, physical medicine
specialist. What I want you to understand is that liver deficiency in Eastern medicine
doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with your actual liver. Any of the organ systems
that are described in Eastern medicine are really talking about a functional relationship
in your body that does have a little bit to do with your liver but specifically the liver
in Eastern medicine has to do with blood, blood function and hormones. So with a woman's
system it has to do with infertility, PMS, problems with the period. For a man it has
to do with almost PMS type symptoms in the male, things with aggravation, irritation,
anger, also to do with the eyes maybe redness or irritation. It can even lead to blood pressure
type debilities. So when they say that you have a liver deficiency don't think that your
liver enzymes are necessarily off, don't think that you need to do something to boost that,
although the same things that effect the liver in the West can effect it in the East such
as alcohol. Also understand that everybody has some sort of deficiency or excess and
with Eastern medicine they are just trying to bring about a balance so a liver deficiency
may not be that much of a problem you just need to be brought into balance just slightly.
My name is Dr. Mark Brinson, doctor of oriental medicine, wishing you a balanced life.
