Welcome, faculty and advisors, to the tutorial on term selection, selecting a student ID,
and viewing student information on SSB, also known as
Self Service Banner. To begin, visit http://think.stedwards.edu
and from the quick links on the right, click on “My Hilltop.”
Login with your current St. Edward’s username and password.
then, click on “Login” towards the bottom left of the screen.
Once you are logged in, you will navigate to the hyperlink under
Access Banner called SSB. Click on that link, and this will take you to
the self service banner.
This is the home screen of the self service banner (SSB).
Select the “Faculty Services” menu option.
This will display the Faculty Services menu with the available tools.
The are multiple ways to retrieve the same information or to perform the same tasks.
Let’s select a term. From the faculty services menu, click on
“Term Selection.”
Term selection is used because you are required to select the term for options that require
a specific selection of a valid term. If no term has been selected for the current
SSB session, this option will be displayed. Similarly, if
you have been using one term and want to change to another term, you must
return to this page through the faculty services menu to do so.
Select the term from the pull-down menu and click “submit.”
This will return you to the faculty services main menu.
Please note that therm you select will remain the active term until another one is
selected or the session is ended.
Now that the term is selected, you may select a student ID.
Click on the Student Information Menu
It will display various choices and you will click on the ID Selection

On the student and advisee selection page, enter the SEU ID
of the student you wish to find or search for another student using their name.
If you are uncertain how to spell the complete name, search using their
partial name followed by the wildcard symbol. For example,
“schell” can be found by entering “sch" and the percentage sign.
Then click submit.
Once you click submit, a similar screen will appear containing a list
of all students assigned to you whose last name begins with “sch.”
Select the appropriate student from your search and click submit.
Users also have the ability to search for a student
by directly entering the student ID number.
ID numbers in banner must be a total of 9 digits. For example, a current
ID number is 841289. For banner
to accept this as a valid login, you will need to add three 0’s before the number
to equal 000841289
If the current ID number is only five numbers such as 82978
you will need to add four 0’s before the number to equal
000082978
Then click submit.
You will be asked to verify that the student you have chosen is, in fact, correct.
If so, select submit to move forward to the faculty services main menu.
If not, select “ID selection” to try again.
Once you select the student ID, the student ID will remain the active
ID until a new student is selected or the session has ended.
To select a new student ID, repeat the preceding steps.
To view general student information, click on “student information” in the
student information menu.

This will display general information about the student’s major, classification,
advisor, academic standing, and so on.
More detailed instructions and information will be provided in this series of videos to help
faculty complete tasks using the Self Service Banner (SSB).
Once you have finished reviewing the student’s general information, it is important to
sign out. On the top right side of the screen, click the sign out link.
