For applications where a lighter duty, lower force approach is required,
most machine builders tend to adopt a more simple "roundline" style of actuator.
Most commonly, these are built to a dimensional standard generally known as
ISO6432 for reasons of interchangeability between manufacturers.
Since these products are generally "disposable" rather than repairable,
technical specification often gets overlooked
but there are a number of advantages that the Norgren range has over its competition
that keep it ahead of the game.
We use a "Z" section low friction piston seal suited to
both low and high speed operation typically up to 10 million cycles
reducing potential maintenance scheduling and total cost of ownership.
The Norgren standard M/50 position switch is used, as on other ranges,
in a simple mounting clip
keeping spares stock holding to a minimum and consistency across other products.
So the standard product range fully complies with the dimensional standard,
but what else does Norgren have that can make that difference?
For a more detailed approach
some additional features are needed,
maybe an adjustable cushion version
where higher speed is required.
A piston rod lock for safety critical applications, or a guide block where
larger loads need to be accommodated
offering total versatility from a relatively simple product range.
The standard product is fully non corrodible in general industrial applications,
or select a stainless steel version for more arduous use
this can potentially reduce the need for more costly modifications
to a machine design.
So even the most simple of products can offer engineering advantage
when considering every aspect of application and use.
What you have with the Norgren ISO roundline actuator is a product that can be
as simple as it can be complex.
